A highly disturbing fact is that a large fraction of young men are not at work, in school, or actively looking for work. For example, some one eighth of white men and one third of black men in their mid twenties to early thirties fall into this category, and much larger fractions of younger men do as well. Part of the reason is the low earnings of young men without much education or other skills that discourage them from looking for work. Another related reason is government welfare in the form of food stamps, unemployment compensation, medical coverage from Medicaid, and some rent subsidies when they do not work regularly.

Does self-funding my enrolment in a Chinese language program count as “in school?” Also, haha, “one third of black men” are in fucking prison.
God. Look at that shit! No education? No skills? Then why the fuck does education and training cost so fucking much?! These people were given their place in life on the back of the G.I. bill, a massive wealth redistribution scheme that invested in education and skilled labour. (And, to Gary Becker’s credit, he supports one for “young Blacks and Hispanics.”)
Welfare discourages people too? Wow. What a statement. A simple glance at America’s history and the rest of the world’s present demonstrates what happens without welfare programs. No food stamps? No unemployment? No medical coverage? No rent subsidies? Uh. I hate Maslow’s hierarchy, but FOOD / HEALTH / SHELTER are pretty fucking core.
Ugh! And people ask me why I don’t want to go back to America.
What the fuck is there to go back to?
